Education has been a large part of Taye Diggs’ life and through our partnership with AdoptAClassroom.org, we recently caught up with Award-Winning Actor, Author & Singer, Taye Diggs, when we celebrated giving a $100,000 school supply donation from Burlington Stores to the New York Department of Education. Read on to learn more about Taye Diggs’ inspiration, education, and the campaign.
Why is education so important to you?
I grew up in a home where education came first because my mother is a teacher. My mother always supported me at school and pushed me to follow my passions. She treats her students similarly and provides them the supplies that they need to ensure they have a successful education experience. She cares tremendously about her students beyond the classroom which is what inspires me every day.
You mentioned that you felt you always had the support of your mom and school to pursue your dreams. What were your favorite subjects in school that made an impact on your career?
The arts were my favorite subjects and have meant so much to me throughout my entire life. I’ve always loved to sing and act. Thanks to AdoptAClassroom.org and Burlington Stores, classrooms across the country will be supported so that students can be inspired to learn and create. That’s why I was so honored when Burlington and AdoptAClassroom.org asked me to present the $100,000 school supply donation to the New York Department of Education to support the six Manhattan school districts. I know that the arts allow students to be expressive, especially for me when I was growing up, and this donation will give students the means to follow their passions too.
Why was it important for you to be an AdoptAClassroom.org Ambassador and celebrate their partnership with Burlington?
Knowing how important education is to me, I am honored to support AdoptAClassroom.org and their partnership with Burlington Stores in their efforts to help teachers across the country get the supplies they need. Students can be given the opportunity to thrive in the classroom and receive the education all children deserve. Today, two-thirds of all classroom supplies are purchased by teachers out-of-pocket for their students whose families are unable to afford them, so this donation is very helpful to supporting teachers and classrooms across the country.
How can you help?
It’s simple! Now through August 17, you can donate $1 or more at any Burlington store to benefit AdoptAClassroom.org so that students can have the supplies they need to succeed.
