Singer Jordin Sparks Joins Us to Support Blood Cancer Research

Jordin Sparks with 3 of the kids in our LLS campaign posters

We’re very excited that Jordin Sparks is teaming up with Burlington and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) to help raise funds for lifesaving blood cancer research. Recently, we caught up with multi-platinum recording artist and actress to learn more about her upcoming projects and her commitment to the campaign.

Why is supporting LLS’s mission so important to you?

Not many people realize that every three minutes, someone in the U.S. is diagnosed with blood cancer, and every nine minutes someone dies from blood cancer. LLS is doing amazing things to shine a light on the importance of finding cures and providing access to treatments for blood cancer patients, and I’m so proud to support them.

Why was it important for you to partner with LLS and Burlington on this fundraising campaign?

We are all touched by cancer. I truly feel the urgency to raise awareness for blood cancer and the need to help patients and families dealing with these diseases. The funds raised by Burlington during this campaign, running now through December 9th, will help LLS to advance research to find new treatments and cures.

Can you tell us about the event you recently participated in at Burlington’s flagship location in Union Square, New York City?

On September 19th, we kicked off the campaign at the Union Square store with three amazing kids who are in remission from blood cancer. We invited their families to join so we could reveal their in-store campaign posters, which can be found in Burlington Stores nationwide. We then surprised each kid with a $500 fall wardrobe makeover. It was very special to be a part of it.

How did it impact you?

It’s humbling to see these survivors and their families who have gone through so much be so positive. Meeting these kids was a true reminder of the importance of LLS and Burlington’s campaign.

What was the most memorable part of the event?

The kids! I’ve always loved kids, and it was so special to spend the day with three young survivors. They were all so different but each knew exactly what clothes they wanted – it was so much fun talking to them and choosing outfits.

How can people get involved in the cause?

Just head into any Burlington Store! Now through December 9th, you can donate a dollar or more at checkout to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

What other projects are you currently working on?

I have a lot of exciting projects in the early stages! I’m working on some new songs and auditioning for a few movies. I’m so grateful for all of the opportunities I’ve had since winning American Idol.

At Burlington, we’re all about personal style and achieving it with our everyday low prices. Can you share with us what your personal style is?

My style changes daily. There are days where I want to dress up and do my makeup, but typically you’ll find me in leggings, sneakers and a sweater (I’m always cold!). Usually I keep my outfits minimal and add one statement piece.

How can you help? It’s easy! Simply donate $1 or more now through December 9th at checkout at your local Burlington store. All donations support LLS’s work to fund blood cancer research to advance lifesaving treatments.
